Biodiversity

Flora: There are maquis communities on the coasts of Fethiye and its surroundings (at altitudes less than 600 meters), and conifer forests at higher elevations. These forests are larch, red pine and cedar forests. On the shores, there are heathlands, olive groves, oak groves and citrus fruits. Moreover; It is an endemic species of frankincense-log tree that grows in Göcek, İnlice, Küçük Kargı, Yanıklar and Dailybaşı.

The important grass species of the region are caterpillar, thistle, effech, canary, split, buckthorn, vinegar, wild oat, wild snipe, narpız, salt shaker, sage, salep, vineyard, black thistle, gum thistle, chakir thistle.

Fauna: 3 species of sea turtles (Caretta caretta, Chelonia mydas, Dermochelys coriacea) represented by 5 species in the Mediterranean basin have been detected in the waters of our country. Fethiye Beach is one of the breeding areas of Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas species, which are protected by the Bern Convention and CITES. The area, which was declared a “Special Environmental Protection Area” in accordance with the Barcelona Convention in 1988, is also an Archaeological Site.
