Biodiversity
Flora: Home to dune plants such as Maedicago marina, Eryngium maritmum, Euphorbia paralias, Cupressus sempervirens (cypress), Pinus buritia (scarlet pine) and Arbutus andrachne (sandalwood), Phoenix theophrasti (Datça dDate) and Liquidambar orientalis (sweetgum tree).
Liquidambar orientalis sweetgum is relic endemic and Phoenix theophrasti (Datça date palm) has a very limited distribution.
The Gebekum dune area, located in the southern part of the Datça peninsula, together with its vegetation, forms a sensitive area. Maedicago marina, Eryngium maritmum, Euphorbia paralias, Pancratium maritmum and Alkanna tinctoria are the dominant species in Gebekum. Except for my pregnancy; The dune areas in Kızılbağ, Eksera, Hisarönü Çubucak, İnbükü, Karabük Cape, Periliköşk, Hayıtbükü, Mesudiye, Hisarönü Kocakür, Söğüt regions, which have similar characteristics, have similar sensitivity.
Forest vegetation; It consists of areas where Pinus buritia is common (Red pine) dominant. Intact red pine forests are important in terms of sensitivity. To the north-west, Arbutus andrachne (Sandalwood) again forms pristine groves. Cupressus sempervirens (cypress) grows on rocky valley slopes in Değirmen Bükü. This species is found in pure communities around Sındı village and between İçmeler and Bakırköy on the Bozburun Peninsula.
Phoenix theophrasti (Datça dDate) is found on the valley floors. This species, which has a very limited distribution, is distributed on the slopes of Eksera Stream in the north and around Azganak Hill, Karacahapibaşı, Yarımcabaşı Hill, Kovalıca Hill, Tanışman Hill, Lindasbaşı Hill, Andızcıl Hill in the southern coastal part. Endemic in the region, Liquidambar orientalis (sweetgum tree) is seen in seasonal stream beds and valleys.
Fauna: The bird species black falcon (Falco elenoroae) (black falcon – NE), peregrine falcon (F. Pereginus) (Garhawk-NE), F. Naumanni (small kestrel -NE( F. Naumanni), Bonelli´s eagle (Hieraetus fasciatus) (hare-NE), island gull (Larus audoinii) (island gull- NE) and shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis desmarestii) (crested cormorant -KD) mammal species; Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) (Mediterranean monk seal-HD) Capra aegagrus (wild goat-HD) (Capra aegagrus) and otter (Lutra lutra) (otter-HD) reptilestortoise (Testudo graceae) (HD) can be seen in this area.
